JAMAICA BETTER KNOW

With Red Bull Culture Clash 2014 on the horizon, London-based grime kingpins Boy Better Know are keen to keep hold of their hard-won 2012 championship title.

They’re so serious about bringing the gold home for a second time that they embarked on an epic journey to better discover the history of what it is they do so well. The destination was Jamaica, the birthplace of sound clash culture. It was there that Skepta, Shorty, Jammer, Frisco, Solo 45, Lay-Z and DJ Maximum hooked up with genre’s founding fathers and freshest talent.

BBK met and collaborated with the originators of Kingston’s dancehalls, including the pioneering U-Roy and veteran sound-system selector Ricky Trooper, as well as new blood in the shape of rising star Newbaan, before they honed their skills in the unforgiving Unruly Clash Wednesdays showcase.

The resulting experience has been turned into this short film, Jamaica Better Know.
